cookies and cream cupcakes

one stiflingly hot day this summer, we decided to run errands.

we went to the market, made our purchases, although somehow along the way a box of newman-o's had made its way into our bags (i was initially blamed for it, though it isn't unheard of for me to put sweets in the cart without dan knowing. yes, just like a little kid). i assume that the lady behind us didn't put up the separator in time, but it was a pleasant surprise, nevertheless.

then, we went to the library so daniel could pick up a book he had reserved. it's not a far trek for us so we walked over, expecting to return with a find or two. about two hours and 20 books later, we were at home pouring over our respective finds. our selections speak volumes (no pun intended) of our various passions, projects, and recent obsessions.

dan brought home: the entire gardening section, from permaculture to vermiculture. a half dozen baking books (of the bread making variety). an archaeological architecture tome.

i (krista) brought home: a book on lingere construction. two subversive knitting books. the mummy congress. and about a half dozen baking books, several of which were solely dedicated to the cupcake.

from the aforementioned newman-o's and these books, was birthed the idea for these:

cookies and cream cupcakes

it's not a horribly original idea, but tasty regardless.

i whipped up a simple vanilla cake batter and added crushed newman-o's. i toyed with the idea of adding more crumbled cookies into the frosting, but i was scared of overkill. instead, i simply topped the little cream clouds of frosting with half an "o" and called it a day. considering cookies and cream is d's all time favorite ice cream (along with chocolate chip cookie dough. yes, just like a little kid), we had no trouble finishing these up quickly.

over and out
